| This book covers the
step by step process involved in restoring and improving the accuracy
of your Bridgeport or other knee type mill.
In this book you get pretty much everything that is in the Bridgeport
Maintenance manual concerning the base of the machine and in
addition you also get:
- A complete inspection guide to assist you in evaluating the condition
of your mill or one you are considering purchasing.
- Instructions on the right way to set a gib.
- Details on the alignment of the overall machine geometry as well
as a comprehensive instructions on the alignment of the dovetail ways
that make up the primary slides of this mill. Including the introduction
of unique and specialized tools for this.
- Instructions for adding Turcite or Rulon to your gibs and saddle.
- Tips on machining or having your worn castings machined for you.
- Complete instructions on retrofitting a true OEM-style internal
centralized lube system to your machine.
- Complete detailed disassembly and assembly instructions including
the tips that make the process easier and the finished machine more
accurate.
- Thorough machine adjustment information that can help you get more
life between rebuilds.
All of this is heavily illustrated and explained in non-technical,
plain english, much the same as the scraping book.
The book is indexed for easy access to the information you need and
is printed in a standard machine maintenance manual size of 8 1/2 X
11"

What this
book does not cover.
- The basics of scraping. This book shows where and why to scrape
but does not give details on the actual techniques. For that you probably
need the scraping book.
- The repair of the mill heads, digital read outs, and power-feeds
are also not covered.
When is the book available.
This is a very good question. The Original Plan, yes I did have a plan,
was to have the book ready for Thanksgiving of 2001. A lot has happened
since I made that plan and the second plan called for it to be complete
about the end of February of 2003.
Well at this point it can be easy to loose faith in any plan regarding
this book but I have picked up a new proofreader / editor and I expect
to have the book finished by early November 2005.
